Chocolate Stuffed French Toast Crockpot Recipe
Ingredients needed:
* 6 slices of day old challah (3/4 inch thick)
* 1/2 cup of semisweet chocolate chips, divided
* 6 eggs
* 3 cups of half-and-half
* 2/3 cup of sugar
* 1 teaspoon of vanilla
* 1/4 teaspoon of salt
* Powdered sugar or warm maple syrup
* Fresh fruit, optional
Preparation steps:
* Generously butter 2 1/2 quart baking dish that fits inside of a 6-quart crockpot. Arrange 2 bread slices in bottom of dish. Sprinkle on 1/4 cup of chocolate chips. Add 2 more bread slices. Sprinkle with remaining 1/4 cup of chocolate chips. Top with remaining 2 bread slices.
* Beat eggs in a large bowl. Stir in half-and-half, sugar, vanilla and salt. Pour egg mixture over bread layers. Press bread into liquid. Set aside 10 minutes or until bread has absorbed liquid. Cover dish with buttered foil, butter-side down.
* Pour 1 inch hot water into crockpot. Add baking dish. Cover and cook on high for 3 hours or until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean. Remove dish and let stand for 10 minutes to firm up. Serve with powdered sugar. Garnish with fresh fruit, if desired.
